Crum and McReynolds Lead Point Battles
Jake Crum has been very impressive with two-second place finishes and a third for the first three events of the young UARA season. This consistency has landed Crum with the points lead.  Crum has an eighteen point advantage over second place runner B.J. Mackey, twenty nine over Roger Lee Newton, thirty seven over Alex Yontz and Richard Boswell II who are tied for fourth.
The Melling Select Rookie point battle for 2008 is really going to be tough.  These young guns are showing quite a bit of muscle and it is going to be an exciting year for them.  Brandon McReynolds has a two-point lead over Andrew Carlsen, three over Scott Turlington, eight over Thomas Hartensveld and twenty-four over fifth-place rookie Kyle Moon.  McReynolds has hired 2002 UARA Champion Danny O’Quinn to come on board to help at the track and be their spotter.  McReynolds is already an outstanding rookie and with the knowledge O’Quinn brings along—this will definitely be a team to watch.
The UARA-STARS have a couple of weeks off from racing.  The teams are gearing up for the Bristol event on May 17, 2008.   In preparing for Bristol, word on the street says that at practice on Sunday May 4th Crum was second fastest to Jamie Yelton.  Crum lead the most laps at the first Bristol event in 2007 before falling victim to a spin and should be right there on May 17th.  Rookie point leader Brandon McReynolds was on hand for the practice session and posted good times along with fellow rookie Cliff Daniels.  Yelton wrecked later in his practice but didn’t receive serious damage
Yelton is always a strong UARA contender and after his victory at Orange County he claimed I should have won them all.  Yelton brings along with him for 2008 a teammate in the form of Paddy Rodenbeck who will be a force to reckon with in the rookie ranks.
The entries are pouring in for Bristol and among them will be the return of 2007 Melling Select Rookie of the Year Matt DiBenedetto.  DiBendetto has been running at Motor Mile and Tri County speedways this year with team owner Mitch West.
Alex Yontz will be on hand to try and be the first repeat Bristol winner.  Yontz had a strong car last year and finished with a good lead over Mark Setzer, B.J. Mackey, Ross Furr and Clay Greenfield.
There is a chance that we will have a lady driver present at Bristol.  Car owner Blair Addis has sent in an entry for Michelle Theriault.  Deborah Renshaw-Parker was a strong car during practice last year but Mother Nature took over the helm and Parker didn’t make the field due to rain and a start from points.
On reflection of the Orange County event April 26th, it was brought to my attention that I had gotten my laps mixed up on an incident involving Alex Yontz and Clay Greenfield.  Who would ever think that I would make a mistake?  Greenfield sent me the following email:
The incident in the story on lap 138 I believe when Alex spun says Alex was running in the top 5 when he spun after contact by me. I wasn't anywhere near Alex, I was running about 12th when that happened. I was on the back straightaway when the wreck happened in turn 4. I never saw Alex the entire race until lap 147. This was the first contact we made the entire race. Newton is the one who made contact with Alex when he spun.
I did not send the email in its entirety but this will get the action straight. My apology to the Greenfields and the Yontz’s for my error.
