“The UARA has done a lot of testing on the 347 SR Ford motor both on the dyno and at the track. After extensive track testing we feel the decision to make the Ford weigh more than a GM crate was a hasty decision based on the dyno numbers alone. These engines will be reviewed and adjusted if needed in the interest of equal competition. We had hoped to gather the track data sooner but weather did not permit” said UARA President Kerry Bodenhamer

Effective March 8, 2010
The Ford 347SR will be allowed a 650 Carburetor at a weight of 3025 with a
1350 right side weight.

Teams the Hickory entry blank is on the schedule/information page please complete an e mail or fax to Wink

The UARA has a 5 day rule for testing. This rule is in place for EVERY event with a Friday practice or not. The last day of practice will be Sunday before the event Any team practicing after Sunday will not receive any points and will have to start  in the rear regardless of qualifying position

UARA Looking for Big Things to Happen in2010

The UARA is excited about 2010. We have put our racers in the movies with Short Track and now we will be putting them on TV. 3 Wide Life Director of Project Development Meghan Stanton said, “ We are a nationally syndicated motor sports TV show called 3 Wide Life. Real grassroots racing is what our show is all about and we would like to come out to Hickory and film the UARA event on the 13th.”

There are a host of very talented drivers coming to the UARA for 2010 with two women signed on to run the full schedule. They are Julia Dawson of Texas and Jessica Murphy out of Florida. These two young women plan to give the young guns like Junior Johnson’s son Robert, Clint King, Adam Long, Ronnie Bassett Jr., Matt Kurzekewski, Tyler English and Michael McGuire a run for the Rookie Championship. They will also have to contend with the likes of 2009 UARA Rookie of the Year Brennan Poole who is making a run for the championship in 2010.

Frank Deiny, Jr. who has won such great races as the fall event at Martinsville, the November race at Myrtle Beach, and the big South Boston October race three times will be making his presence known to the UARA-STARS this year. Deiny will take on the regulars and the rookies with a force to be reckoned with. As a multi Champion winner Deiny will definitely set some high standards for his fellow drivers to challenge. Deiny was the 2001 Orange County Speedway LMSC Champion, 2002 South Boston Speedway LMSC Champion, 2004 Motor Mile Speedway LMSC Champion, 2004 Ace Speedway LMSC Champion and the 2006 Old Dominion Speedway LMSC Champion. Deiny would like nothing better than to add the UARA Championship to his resume.

Early entry KyleGrissom is a former UARA Rookie of the Year and a great young driver that comes to the track with a lot of determination to have his car in the front of the pack. The Grissoms are a dedicated racing team. They are an outstanding show of what the UARA is all about family.

Scott Turlington is another UARA standout that has pre-entered early. Turlington will be joining the ranks of the UARA-STARS for his third season. Turlington comes in with a new crew chief for 2010 and has great plans in store to keep his #48 machine out front. Turlington has finished in the top ten in points in his first two UARA seasons.

Many teams have been to Hickory in the past few weeks practicing and trying to get their cars ready for the season opener on March 13th. The UARA will be holding a controlled practice on Friday March 12th to give the teams that have not been practicing early a chance to get all prepared for the race.

New sponsors are coming on board with the UARA for 2010. Below is a press release from WP Racing Shocks.

Wesley Page, owner of WP Racing Shocks has spent a lot of time around the UARA-STARS Late Model Stock Car touring series over the last eight years since it's inception in 2002.

From being the championship winning crew chief, of inaugural champion, Danny O'Quinn, Jr. to winning championships as a shock builder more recently with Ross Furr in 2007 and Jake Crum in 2008. The record books won't show it, but WP Racing Shocks has won more races than any other shocks in the UARA-STARS Series eight year history.

In 2010, as the UARA-STARS Series enters it's ninth season, WP Racing Shocks will become more involved with the series, becoming a contingency sponsor. WP Racing Shocks will offer product/services certificates for the 2010 season to the drivers finishing just outside of the top five and just outside of the top ten. The sixth place finisher will receive a $75.00 Gift Certificate and the eleventh place finisher will receive a $50.00 Gift Certificate.

"We've been a small part of the UARA since 2002 with WP Racing Shocks and as the series has continued to grow and we have to, it's enable us to get involved more," said WP owner, Wesley Page. "For us it's a way to build our brand as well as support the series and it's drivers and teams."

The UARA-STARS Series competitors will certainly benefit from WP Racing Shocks involvement with the series and Series President, Kerry Bodenhamer is excited to have WP Racing Shocks involved.

"WP Racing Shocks has built a great reputation in this business and it seems like everytime one of our racers goes to victory lane, I see Wesley Page down there posing for photos with them," said Bodenhamer. "WP's involvement in the series will be great for our drivers and teams and the UARA is lucky to be able to add them to our growing list of contingency sponsors."

WP Racing Shocks will also have a trailer at selected UARA-STARS Series races this season to further help their current customers as well as develop future customers and give them the trackside support that they need to get "Hooked Up".

WP Racing Shocks offers shock building and rebuilding services to Late Model Stock Car teams as well as other series and divisions in grassroots racing. WP Racing Shocks is a dealer for Penske, Ohlins, Advanced, JRI, Bilstein and Swift Springs, Draco Springs and Hypercoil Springs. WP Racing Shocks can get you "Hooked Up" and has a history of winning races and championships including three UARA-STARS Series Championships.

UARA and Teams Preparing for Season Opener

Time is drawing near for the season opener for the UARA-STARS. The STARS will hit the track with the first controlled UARA practice on March 12, 2010. Saturday March 13, 2010 will host the first UARA race of 2010.

The UARA officials were at Hickory Speedway Saturday putting the final touches on the start of the 2010 season. Robert Pressley Racing of Asheville, NC which is housed close to UARA headquarters worked along with the UARA by putting a Ford spec engine in one of his cars and a Chevrolet engine in the other to run comparison testing on the track.

With UARA veteran Coleman Pressley behind the wheel, the UARA was testing the new 347SR engine that was approved over the winter. UARA President Kerry Bodenhamer just wanted to see what the on track results were compared to the dyno results. Mike Delahanty, Program Manager Sportsman Circle Track Racing Ford Racing Technology came to the UARA last fall to discuss a contingency program for the 2010 season for any built Ford motor. After the contingency program discussion the 347SR was discussed. There was extensive dyno work done to compare to the 347SR to the existing engines that the UARA now runs.” We were very pleased with what we saw on the dyno and now that there has been some on track testing we feel the 347SR is another affordable option for the competitor to have on engines” said UARA President Kerry Bodenhamer.

Some of the 2010 UARA Rookie contenders were at HMS on Saturday also testing. Tyler English, Adam Long and Ronnie Bassett, Jr. were on had shaking their cars down. The UARA looks to have a very strong rookie battle going on for 2010.
This will be a season of the veterans vs. the rookies. Frank Deiny Jr, Brennan Poole, Kyle Grissom and Lee Tissot are a few of the returning veterans. Robert Johnson, Ty Dillon, Clint King and Michael McGuire are more of the rookie contenders.

Racing along with the UARA-STARS will be the Pro Challenge series. The Pro Challenge Series host many young drivers who will be the up and coming late model drivers of the future. Also racing will be the PASCAR Legends making their first run with the UARA series. Also making their first appearance with the UARA will be The Carolina Vintage Stock Cars to round out the evening’s events.
