Tyler Laing No. 16 Myachi Chevy Newport Motor Speedway Post-Race Report

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 16, 2012) – Tyler Laing and the No. 16 Myachi Chevy, Coulter Motorsports team finished ninth in Saturday nights Jeff’s Auto Sales 150 “Part Deux” at Newport Motor Speedway.

Debuting a brand new sponsor, Myachi “The Original Hand Sack,” Laing headed into Newport Motor Speedway for the second time of the season. The UARA-STARS Rookie of the Year contender entered the open practice session on Friday where after 39-Laps he posted the 14th fastest time at 13.608 seconds.

Set to continually improve throughout the weekend, Laing worked closely with crew chief Mikey Toemmes to fine tune their No. 16 Myachi Chevy for the 150-Lap Saturday night feature. Laing participated in both Saturday afternoon practice sessions, pacing the first in 11th at 13.581 seconds and the final session in 12th at 13.626 seconds. He would follow his consistent runs with two laps of qualifying where he would post the 10th quickest time.

With the green flag waving that evening to kick off the Jeff’s Auto Sales 150 “Part Deux,” Laing set his sights towards the front of the field. Making quick work of slower lapped traffic, Laing found himself knocking on the door of the top-five. Pacing himself to conserve his equipment Laing continually knocked off times as fast as the leaders while working through traffic.

A late race red flag allowed Laing time to dissect his Myachi Chevy to Toemmes. He reported that his car was free all around the track but still allowed him to apex his corners. With the race back under green Laing kept up a solid battle within the top-10. When the checkered flag waved, Laing would cross the line in the No. 16 Myachi Chevy ninth.

The next stop for Tyler Laing and the Coulter Motorsports team will be Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C. on Saturday, July 28.
