Marcos Ambrose Motorsport Stars
With Double Top-Ten
The Marcos Ambrose Motorsport duo of Ben Rhodes and David Garbo Jnr combined to post a double top-five result over the weekend, with the Stanley Fords displaying front running pace in the Banjo Matthews Memorial at Hickory Motor Speedway.
For Rhodes, the event continued his strong Rookie season in the UARA Stars series, qualifying fourth which translated into a second place finish, while new recruit to the Marcos Ambrose Motorsport squad, Garbo Jnr, qualified second and held on for fifth place at the chequered flag.
The pace of both drivers was evident throughout practice, with Garbo Jnr setting the quickest time in the final session.
Come race time, Rhodes spent the entire event within the top-three positions, and led over 50 of the race’s 150 tours at the team’s home track.
After taking the lead on lap 94, Rhodes was hampered by several late race cautions, including a final yellow flag that set up a four lap dash to the finish.
Rhodes led the field to the white flag by a matter of inches, but in a physical final lap succumbed to the advances of Dillon Bassett.
Even though he fell just short of his maiden victory, Rhodes was thrilled with the team’s performance over the weekend.
“The entire Marcos Ambrose Motorsport organization is really coming into its own, and I have had a blast racing with David Garbo Jnr and Chad Reed (multiple AMA/World Supercross champion) recently under the MAM banner,” Rhodes said.
"All of us want to get to victory lane, not only for ourselves, but for Marcos so we can bring the team their first win.
“Whether it is Chad, David or I, we feel that victory is right around the corner. We are all very excited!”
Garbo Jnr meanwhile took plenty of good information away from the weekend, with a drive that showed that he will be a threat in future rounds.
Spending most of the race within the top-five, Garbo Jnr drifted back to eighth place late in the running.
However, a charge from the final set of restarts netted his solid result.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of Marcos Ambrose Motorsport, we’ve clearly got a great crew putting together some really slick race cars,” Garbo Jnr said.
“I learned so much out there this weekend, and it was neat to battle with Ben on the track throughout the race.
“We gave each other plenty of respect, and it feels great to be a part of such a strong result for the team.”
Marcos Ambrose Motorsport returns to UARA Stars Series action on July 14 at the 4/10th mile long Newport Speedway in Tennessee.
