Tyler Laing No. 16 Coulter Motorsports Chevrolet Kingsport Speedway Post-Race Report
Laing Earns Career High 9h Place Qualifying Position
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 7, 2012) – Tyler Laing and the No. 16 Coulter Motorsports
Chevrolet Impala SS team finished 11th Friday night at Kingsport Speedway.
Taking every opportunity to earn Laing, a contender for the 2012 UARA-STARS
Rookie of the Year title valuable seat time, his Coulter Motorsports team
participated in the open practice session Thursday afternoon. The 18-year-old
driver spent most of the day’s session, along with Friday’s practices, learning
the unique racing line around Kingsport and dialing in his Chevrolet.
Laing qualified a career high 8th for the 150-lap UARA event and immediately
set out on a quest to the front with the green flag waving. With crew chief
Mikey Toemmes reminding the Southwest Ranches, Fla. native of the cautiously
conservative approach needed at the bullring of Kingsport, Laing paced the
field inside of the top-10.
Unfortunately, Laing would receive the black flag from UARA-STARS officials
later on during the event for racing below the yellow line in turns one and
two, a new rule put in place before the race. Although faced with adversity and
finding himself two-laps down, Laing stayed undeterred and raced his way back
through the field. When the checkered flag waved, Laing brought home the No. 16
Coulter Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS in the 11th position.
The next stop for Tyler Laing and Coulter Motorsports will be Anderson Motor
Speedway in Anderson, S.C. Friday, June 1st.
