UARA POSTPONED CONCORD RACE DUE TO WEATHER
Hendersonville, NC (3/26/11) –Cloudy skies hung over Concord Speedway and didn’t leave a promising day for racing for the UARA Stars. Officials postponed Concord’s race early Saturday morning. The unsuitable weather conditions and forecasted heavy rainfall for the next few days left UARA officials scrambling with speedway officials trying to determine a make up date. This will be announced in the near future.
During a sunny practice on Friday, March 25, at Concord, Scott Turlington had the fastest lap, clocking in at 16.759 seconds around the 1/2 mile track. Turlington finished thirteenth in UARA season opener at Hickory Motor Speedway.
The Australian Rookie, George Miedecke, is proving himself to be a great contender for the series. With his impressive second place finish in Hickory, he continues to be strong as he was second quickest during practice. His car seemed to be the fastest during the first couple of laps. Miedecke will be driving a full UARA season for Marcos Ambrose Motorsports.
Garret Campbell was planning on making his 2011 UARA debut during Saturday’s race. Campbell took the opportunity to practice at the track on Friday and came up third fastest amongst the other eighteen drivers who practiced. Campbell had a pole and win at Concord last year with the UARA. Campbell was in a familiar car with a new number for 2011. Campbell who has run the number 12 for the past two years with the UARA showed what a true sportsman he is when he gave up his number to Becca Kasten to run in honor of her twin sister who passed way this past New Year. Campbell now has the number 72.
A familiar name on the top speed charts was Ronnie Bassett Jr. His fastest lap was during the last part of his practice. This no. 4 car was fourth quickest during the practice and finished fourth in the season opener.
Hickory’s Pole sitter, Kyle Grissom was another one of those drivers who had a faster car during their first couple of laps of practice. He ran at about 76 mph on his eighth lap of practice, which made it his quickest.
The next stop for these UARA stars is on April 9th at Kingsport Speedway for the
