UARA Preparing for 2011
The UARA has closed the books on 2010 with the presentation of awards, honoring of sponsors and recognition of employees at the 2010 Championship Banquet. It is forward we go in preparation for 2011.
There will changes going on with new teams, number changes and new faces to be seen in the UARA for 2011.
One rule change for 2011 is the UARA is going to allow the Camaro and Mustang. UARA President Kerry Bodenhamer said, " We felt that by allowing the Camaro and Mustang, it will create a new interest in racing with brand name recognition."
2010 UARA Champion Coleman Pressley is in pursuit of a Nationwide ride and furthering his racing career in that path.
Second place point contender, Brennan Poole who took his share of awards at the banquet is forming a new team and running the number 7 for 2011. Poole plans to take up where he left off last year with win after win and setting goals for his fellow competitors to follow.
Robert Johnson will also be rejoining the UARA force in 2011 with a new team and a determined focus to be the first Rookie of the Year to back it up as the UARA Champion. Johnson and family have moved their racing organization back to their hometown.
Kyle Grissom will return to the UARA with the number 31. That is the number he carried back in 2005, the year he won the UARA Rookie of the Year title. It could be his lucky number. Grissom won a set of tires at the 2010 banquet in a random draw. Not a bad way to start the season. Grissom will hope to turn his most poles from 2010 to most wins in 2011, something he is very well capable of doing.
Ronnie Bassett, Jr. is just one of many wanting to put the pressure on Poole. Bassett has taken up residence in the seat abandoned by Poole in 2010. Bassett has joined forces with the FHR team and will be someone to be watched. FHR leader Jamie Yelton has had great success with his development drivers in the UARA and Bassett has a pretty strong 2010 season to back him up. George Miedeke will be Bassett's team mate.
Clint King is another of the 2010 alumni that will have a new number for 2011. King will be driving the number 4 machine with FDJ being his backbone. Frank Deiny, Jr. will be a positive influence on the young King as he goes into his freshman year with the UARA. King was the only rookie contender to win a race in 2010.
2010 race winners Matt Kurzejewski and Garrett Campbell will be returning in 2011. Kurzejewski will be returning with an unnamed teammate. Kurzejewski showed his talent in 2010 and captured a win at Tri County Motor Speedway. Campbell showed his winning ability at Concord.
Scott Turlington will be starting his fourth year with the UARA and seeking that elusive first win. Turlington has shown much promise with the UARA. Julia Dawson will be returning as a UARA regular in 2011 as well. Rumor is that Julia will have some full time female competition in 2011 but as of press time that driver has not registered yet.
The UARA-STARS will be in action on March 12, 2011 at Hickory Motor Speedway.
