.Fat Head Racing Makes 1-2-3 at Rockingham Speedway

Rockingham, N.C. (5/13/11) –Chris Lawson landed his first career UARA-STARS Sunoco pole this afternoon at Rockingham Speedway with a 25.716-second lap and his Jamie Yelton teammates were right behind.

“I'm excited about a 1-2-3 with FHR. You can't beat that, and it's definitely a group effort and a team because we're not about any one car. We did some stuff right before qualifying as a team and made a decision that paid off,” said Lawson. “I can't be any more excited. To have three cars within a matter of a few hundredths is pretty exciting.”

Lawson, who sat out during the first practice to help Ronnie Bassett, Jr., completed a total of nine laps during Friday’s final practice. Lawson had contracted a sponsor for his own car for this race months before landing the role as Bassett’s crew chief.

Bassett, Jr., qualified on the outside pole and George Miedecke was third for Saturday’s Carolina 200. Car owner Jamie Yelton could not have been more pleased.

“It makes me feel good that our two car team is working and that was my goal. If two cars weren't better than one, why does Hendrick and those guys do it?,” said Yelton. “The bottom line for us though is to win races and take care of our guys. I can't say enough about George and Ronnie Bassett. Even when we get some bad luck they have all of the confidence in the world in us as a team.”

Miedecke credited his teammates for their useful information to help him and his crew make the correct adjustments before qualifying.

“We had a teammate that had a quick car and we headed in his direction. The flow of information is definitely going both ways this season and it's good to see that,” Miedecke said. “It benefits both of us to have a teammate and Ronnie is driving the car well.”

Brennan Poole and Kyle Grissom rounded out the top five in qualifying on Friday afternoon. Former Rockingham polesitter Paddy Rodenbeck qualified sixth, followed by Andy Mercer, Alex Yontz, Scott Turlington and Jesse Little.

The UARA-STARS portion of the Carolina 200 takes the green flag at high noon on Saturday. Tickets are still available by visiting RockinghamSpeedway.com or calling (910) 205-8800.
