Racing Electronics Extends as Official Communications Provider for UARA-Stars Series

Series Gives RE a Chance to Reach More Grassroots Race Teams

CONCORD, NC (February 15, 2010) – Racing Electronics supplies products to race teams from the very top of the sport all of the way down to the grassroots levels of short track racing. The UARA-Stars Series provides Late Model Stock Car teams a chance to travel throughout the Southeastern United States and compete for a points championship at venues in several different states. The series is home to a number of full-time touring teams as well as several smaller teams that enter one, two or a handful of events each season to compliment their home track racing schedules.

With both entities on top of their game in their respective fields, it only makes sense that they would work together – and by announcing a three year extension for Racing Electronics to remain as the exclusive electronics sales and services provider for UARA-Stars tour, that is exactly what they are going to do.
Racing Electronics, in its 20-plus years in the motorsports industry, has become the number-one source for professional race communications. RE has earned a reputation as the industry leader from coast-to-coast and beyond in NASCAR, NHRA, World of Outlaws and more, including some of the top short track racing series and tracks.

Being involved with the UARA-Stars tour gives RE the chance to market themselves more to the short track community.

“This relationship has already worked out really well,” said Kevin Hughes, Racing Electronics’ Team Services Manager. “We have been trying to target the grassroots racer and being involved with the UARA-Stars tour helps to accomplish that. UARA is a very competitive series that features some up and coming stars putting on a great show. We’re proud to be associated with them.”

“We just glad to have Racing Electronics back again,” said Kerry Bodenhamer of the UARA-Stars Series. “Bruce (Silver) and all of the guys at RE do an excellent job with both their products and their service.”

Having an involvement with a series that features both touring teams and gives local teams a chance to come and compete is a major marketing plus for Racing Electronics.

“We can’t send a representative to every short track in Southeast,” said Hughes. “But being involved with the UARA gives us a chance for those teams to meet up with our professional technicians. We see some of the teams at the end of the season when they have their big show at Martinsville, but this gives us a chance to regularly work with Late Model Stock Car teams and there are a lot of great racers out there.”

“We average 100 or so cars every year that race with us,” said Bodenhamer. “That benefits both the series and Racing Electronics. It gives them an opportunity to showcase their products to teams that they might not otherwise get a chance to reach firsthand.”

The 2010 UARA-Stars season kicks off on March 13th at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC).

Racing Electronics manufactures and supplies a complete line of race communication products and accessories and has been serving the professional drivers and pit crews, as well as the race fan, for more than 20 years.

Racing Electronics offers customers a free, full-size, full-color catalog that can also be downloaded from the new racingelectronics.com, where they can choose from a variety of two-way radios, scanners, headphones and headsets, as well as a complete selection of accessories. RE also offers an online Frequency Membership where you can get up-to-date listings of current races and associated scanner frequencies. In addition to its worldwide headquarters and full showroom in Concord, North Carolina, Racing Electronics has mobile offices at all Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series events, along with all NHRA & ARCA races. RE also attends many ARCA, IRL, NASCAR Touring, PASS and UARA races, along with many other series events throughout the season.

Son of NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee to Race in 2010

Robert Johnson Continues the Family Legacy
Lexington, NC – Almost 44 years after retiring from driving, NASCAR legend, Junior John-son will watch from the pits as his son takes the green flag. Robert Glen Johnson III will run the full UARA schedule as well as five Whelen All American Series late model events this season with Junior Johnson & Associates.
Junior Johnson, nicknamed “The Last American Hero” emerged as one of the great competitors in NASCAR during the 1950s and 1960s. Credited with discovering drafting, Junior won 50 NASCAR races before retiring in 1966. He later became a team owner in the 1970s and 1980s, under his own banner of Junior Johnson & Associates, working with several NASCAR notables such as Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip.
In May, Junior will be one of five members of the first class inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This is certain to be a special time for Junior and the Johnson family as he is honored by the NASCAR Hall of Fame and watches his son race in his first full season of late model racing.
“The pride I feel as a member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame comes from recognition of what I have done in my racing career. With Robert, the pride comes from simply being a father. I admire my son‟s initiative and ambition as he begins what I am sure will be a successful venture, especially one in racing, which has been my life. I am also proud to be a part of it and to share it with him” said Junior.
Robert, 16, will drive the number 11 Chevrolet Impala and will use Earnhardt- Childress Racing engines. He will adorn the updated Junior Johnson & Associates logo on his fire-suit. The team logo from his father‟s days as team owner has been updated with a more modern look for the 2010 season and will certainly carry some nostalgia from the “good „ole days” of racing.
Standing at six feet four inches tall, Robert has the build of a basketball player. How-ever, it is racing that runs in his blood and that has captured the interest of this young man. He began practicing at dirt tracks with his father in 2008 and in May of 2009 entered his first race at Caraway Speedway and won. Robert ran several other races at the speedway and finished the season with 13 starts, 5 wins and 10 top-5 finishes.
Robert is currently a sophomore at Forsyth Country Day in Lewisville, NC and will work to balance his school work and racing.
“Aside from looking forward to the high level of competition I‟m sure I‟ll face, I think what I anticipate most is progress. If the Carolina Carports team and I always take steps forward, then we are doing it right. I didn‟t take this lightly. I know that to com-
bine school and racing is a daunting challenge, but with the help of my family and my team, I know I can meet it. I‟ve never accepted less than my best in my education and that‟s the way it will be in racing” said Robert.
Carolina Carports, Inc., founded by Javier Herrera in Dobson, NC will continue their sponsorship of Robert this season. The company manufactures metal products by using the newest technology as well as engineered expertise and up-scale machinery. They specialize in carports, garages, RV carports, barns and other custom projects. Their sup-port will be instrumental in the development of the team this season.
Steve Johnson, Sales Manager for Carolina Carports looks forward to the continued partnership with Robert and Junior. “We had good success last year with Robert. Hav-ing legitimate people like Robert and Junior endorse our products is important. They can relate to our customers.”
Junior Johnson & Associates will operate out of JKS Motorsports in Lexington, NC. JKS has been providing services in the motorsports industry for 27 years. They facilitate for marketing companies, teams, sponsors and manufacturers. Will Spencer, president and founder of JKS, has been involved in NASCAR for many years and has worked with Junior and others to provide this opportunity for Robert.
“We all feel it is a great opportunity to provide this service to Junior Johnson and his son, to continue the Johnson family legacy” said Spencer.
The 74,000 sqft facility offers ample space for a team to operate and can facilitate for the team by preparing cars, providing support and helping with activation and any promotional needs at the events.
Ed Berrier and long-time friend of Spencer will run the day-to-day operations as well as crew chief for the team. Berrier raced in several divisions of NASCAR in the late 1980‟s, 1990‟s and early 2000‟s including the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Sprint Cup Se-ries. He has since worked with developmental drivers to prepare them for a career in racing.
This season, the group will work together to provide an avenue for Robert to make a name for himself in racing. They look forward to preparing him for a long career in motorsports and continuing the Johnson family legacy.

With the UARA preparing for 2010, twenty-eight drivers have pre-registered for their numbers and many more are expected before the March 13, 2010 season opener at Hickory Motor Speedway.

The schedule has been posted with one TBA to be filled in the near future. The UARA is excited about the great field of drivers that are coming on board for 2010. Many new faces will be on hand with many regulars returning to make a bid for the championship.

At this time six of the top ten 2009 drivers have renewed their numbers for 2010. They are Brennan Poole, Garrett Campbell, Brandon McReynolds, Kyle Grissom, Scott Turlington and Paddy Rodenbeck.

2009 Rookie of the Year Brennan Poole has already expressed his plans to run for the championship. Poole was a very impressive rookie and will be a figure for his fellow competitors to look to. Poole has once again signed on with the FHR (Fat Head Racing) team from Forest City, NC. FHR is headed by fellow UARA competitor Jamie Yelton. Yelton is no stranger to the front of the UARA pack. He has had a second, fourth and fifth place finish in the UARA points battle collecting seven wins and six Sunoco poles to his credit. Yelton is a fierce competitor and his desire to win and be in the front of the pack is passed on to Poole.
Poole would like to have his name in the record books with Danny O’Quinn Jr., Lee Tissot, Jason York, Matt McCall, Brandon Ward, Ross Furr and Jake Crum as UARA Champion.

Lee Tissot will be returning to the UARA on a full schedule in 2010 with the Austin Green – Mitch West team. As a former UARA champion, Tissot knows how to get his car to the front and keep it there. Tissot will be a force for the 2010 teams to contend with. A plus to Tissot’s run this year will be his team. This is the same team that he won his 2003 Championship with.

Also returning for 2010 will be Garrett Campbell, John King II, Luke Laney, Ryan Robertson, Brad Queen, Dylan Presnell, Clay Greenfield, Bryan Dauzat and Alex Yontz.

Yontz has captured two second place finishes in the UARA points and will be another strong contender for the 2010 championship.

The 2010 newcomers are Ronnie Bassett Jr., Clint King, Julia Dawson, Ty Dillon, Adam Long, Matt Kurzejewski, Robert Johnson, Tyler English, Ryan Wilson and Michael McGuire. This group of young men and women should add an exciting mix to the UARA series.

Frank Deiny, Jr. will be coming on with the UARA for the first few events. After that time he will make a decision on whether he will run the entire schedule based on other commitments he has.

The fans will definitely be seeing some fantastic shows at the UARA races once again in 2010.

UARA Thankful for Sponsors and Fans

Automobile racing is a fan and sponsor driven sport. The UARA is most appreciative of each and every one of theirs. The UARA has been blessed with returning sponsors year after year and new ones coming along for the ride each season. With sponsorship the UARA is able to continue to promote the best Late Model Stock Drivers in the Southeast.

The UARA-STARS fan base broadens with each season as well. During the Most Popular driver online vote for 2009 the expansion of the fan base was quite evident. Votes were rolling in from as far away as Alaska. Twenty-seven states voted in the contest.

This is just proof of just how far reaching the UARA has

become. The UARA is very excited for the racers, sponsors and fans to be able to reach out beyond the Southeast to show what a great series we have become.

The UARA takes this time to thank all of their 2009 sponsors for helping to promote the series and make it flourish: Goodyear, Sunoco, AR Bodies, Racing Electronics, Circle Wheel, Comp Cams, G Force South, Unifirst, KLB Race Cars and Parts, Tiger, Joe Gibbs Driven, RE Suspension, Pro Fabrication, Performance Tees, CV Products, Miller Welders, Hypercoil,
Tri County Solutions, Holley, Leavitt, Sonic and B Square Janitorial.

Their were many special trophies and awards given out at the UARA 2009 Championship Banquet on January 16, 2010 due to the great sponsorship coming to the series.
