McCall Takes the Checker Grissom Claims the Win At
Dillon
Wow is all the main word that pops to mind after the
UARA-STARS Dillon race Saturday night. Matt McCall
took the checker flag first but it was Kyle Grissom
who came home as winner due to a rule infraction by
McCall on the final lap in turn four.

It is clearly stated in the drivers meeting and on
the printed handout each driver receives at that
time: No one will advance on the last lap by taking
another car out. You will be placed as the last car
on the lead lap. Rough Driving will not be tolerated
and will be dealt with accordingly.
Paddy Rodenbeck was the man on the Sunoco Pole and
Jamey Caudill had the KLB Race Cars & Parts outside
pole to begin the event. Rodenbeck took the lead on
lap one and appeared to be the man to beat. Caudill,
2002 UARA Champion Danny O’Quinn, Coleman Pressley,
Grissom, Garrett Campbell, McCall, Brandon Dean,
Brennan Poole and Michael Rouse will come down as
the top ten on lap one.
The freight train will continue to roll from that
point with B.J. Mackey inching his way up from his
12th place start to 9th by lap 3. Joey Bryant will
progress from a 16th place start to 11th by lap 11
showing muscle in mid pack. Kevin Parsons, son of
the late Benny Parsons has problems with his machine
and his night will end on lap 32. Former UARA Rookie
of the Year Barry Andrews will also have
complications and end his night early on lap 33.
The field will remain green for 65 straight laps
before caution one falls as the Rouse car has
problems and stops on the track. At this time the
top ten are Rodenbeck, Caudill, Grissom, McCall,
McReynolds, O’Quinn, Campbell, Poole, Dean and Scott
Turlington.
There will be a short green then the Tyler English
car will hit the wall on the backstretch and bring
out caution two. The field goes green again on lap
84 with Rodenbeck out front and Caudill in hot
pursuit. Lap 87 sees the Caudill car take the lead
followed by Rodenbeck, McCall, Grissom, McReynolds
and O’Quinn as the top five.
The action is hot and McCall passes Rodenbeck for
second on lap 91. Caution three flies as the Don
Satterfield car looses a wheel in turn four.
Satterfield is like a sitting duck as he is sideways
on the track as the field bears down on him.
Thankfully the field clears him and goes on by.
Caudill will lead the pack with McCall hot on his
trail. They will run neck and neck. Caution four
flies as Brandon Dean and the young driver Ronnie
Bassett, Jr. spin separately in turn four.
Caudill and McCall will put on one whale of a show
as they are side by side lap after lap.
Caudill stays in front most laps but McCall will get
a nose out front every once and a while on the back
stretch but it is Caudill who has the advantage at
the start finish line.
Ryan Hall, Joey Bryant and Bassett will wreck in
turn one on lap 134 bringing out the fifth and final
caution of the night. The field will be red flagged
to clean up the wreckage and allow for the most
green flag laps to the finish. It will be a nail
biting finish as Caudill and McCall battle to the
end. Caudill will continue to lead but a slight tap
in turn four changed the whole picture as Caudill
spins and McCall takes the checker. As explained
earlier McCall will be dropped back to tenth place
at the end of the lead lap due to this tiny tap.
Grissom who had a great run all night would come
home with the RE Suspension victory as a great
birthday present for himself. Tom Vique with 3 V
Performance will be the Comp Cam Engine Builder of
the race winners. Brennan Poole being the Rookie of
the Race. Caudill will receive the Aluminum Racing
Products Hard Luck Award.
Garrett Campbell who started and finished in 6th
will receive the B Square Janitorial Clean Sweep
award. Brandon McReynolds will receive the G Force
Shift of the Race after falling back early in the
event and coming back to a second place finish.
