UARA Appeal Board Rules in Favor of McReynolds

The penalty levied against the #28 car driven by Brandon McReynolds at Lonesome Pine Raceway on Saturday July 4, 2009 has been overturned by the UARA appeals board.

McReynolds will be reinstated as finishing in third position for that event.

After much research by the UARA and McReynolds it has been determined the penalty was in error and amendments to the rule will be forthcoming as to part numbers etc.

The UARA’s is founded on the basis of being fair and equal to all competitors.  The UARA appeals board was founded to clarify any questions about a penalty as to its legitimacy. The board has the ability to uphold or overturn a penalty levied against a competitor based on the evidence presented to them.

The UARA is pleased with the decision of the appeal board.  It is never an easy decision to disqualify a competitor and the UARA in no way wishes to cause embarrassment to a competitor but to merely adhere to the rules established by the UARA with the most efficiency.

Matt McCall Dominates Fairway Ford, Advance Auto Parts, Courtsey Chevrolet 150

In the hills of Coeburn Virginia is a lovely racetrack called Lonesome Pine Raceway.  It is at said raceway that Matt McCall once again showed the style that won him the UARA championship in 2005.

McCall and his team claimed their third UARA victory of 2009, just two shy of his 2005 season record.

McCall took the Sunoco Pole at a 16.368 time followed by Brandon McReynolds on the KLB Race Cars & Parts outside pole at 16.394.  The field is set and it becomes a race against Mother Nature as clouds are hanging heavy over the speedway.

When the green flag dropped McCall took to the point and the chase was on from there.  The train begins with McCall being the engineer followed by McReynolds, Richard Boswell II, Jamey Caudill, Paddy Rodenbeck, Brennan Poole, Garrett Campbell, Kyle Grissom, Jake Crum and Coleman Pressley.    By lap four Boswell has passed McReynolds, Rodenbeck passes Caudill, Crum passes Campbell and Grissom.  Next lap down Grissom passes Campbell.  The action is set and it’s on from there.  Lap seven its Coleman Pressley passing Campbell.

Caution one flies as the car of Dylan Presnell spins in turn three on lap 22.  During this caution the Michael Rouse and Jamey Yelton cars take a quick trip to the pits.  Yelton will later end his day in the pits.  Yelton said “Something broke” but was not sure of the problem.  Yelton is making his return to the UARA and will be a force to reckon with when he gets his game on.  Rookie Brennan Poole has been having some great runs under the watchful eye of Yelton.

Shortly before the second caution for the spinning car of Brennan Poole, McReynolds and Rodenbeck pass Boswell.  When the green flies again McReynolds and Rodenbeck make the move on Boswell and Owen Kelly has moved ahead of Matthew Godley for 10th position.  There is a short green when Mitch Gibson spins in turn one bringing out caution 3.  A misty rain begins to fall and the field will go red for a short period of time.

On the restart it is McCall, McReynolds, Rodenbeck, Boswell, Caudill, Crum, Grissom, Pressley, Campbell and Kelly as the top ten.  Poole will quickly start his run back through the field passing Dylan Presnell.  Caudill will pass Rodenbeck on lap 50 for 4th position.  Poole is quick and passes Brian Blevins, Nate Monteith and John King II on lap 55 as the rest of this group wreck in turn 2 bringing out caution 4.

During this time the rains move in again and one more time the field is brought to a stop on the backstretch for a short time.

The green flies again on lap 68 with McCall still the man showing the way.  Meanwhile Poole is picking off the competition one by one as he passes Dylan Presnell on lap 71 then Matthew Godley on lap 73.

Poole will pass Kelly for 10th on lap 79 and Crum puts his move on Rodenbeck for 5th on lap 80.  Kelly will bring out the 5th caution as he spins in turn 2 on lap 85.  Kelly will be in and out of the pits but his night will end at this point.

Back to green Poole passes Campbell for 9th position on lap 96.  Boswell will pass McReynolds for second on lap 97.  Outside the top ten Presnell gains a spot on Godley for 11th

McCall still is sailing out front when Coleman Pressley and Brennan Poole spin in turn one bringing out the 6th and final caution of the night on lap 115. Poole will lose a lap but will remain on the track . Pressley will blend ahead of the leaders and then  make a quick dash through the pits remaining on the lead lap.

McCall takes the green on lap 118 followed by Boswell, McReynolds, Caudill, Crum, Grissom, Rodenbeck, Campbell, Presnell and Godley rounding out the top ten.  The fans get a good taste of serious racing and with fifteen to go Caudill, Crum and Grissom are doing some serious side by side, nose to tail, bumper to bumper racing lap after lap.  It will take Crum ten laps before he finally gets ahead of Caudill.

That was some good hard racing going on there.

Back in the back Pressley, after his spin is inching his way back thru the field passing John King, Michael Rouse, Brian Blevins and Matthew Godley in the process.

The checker will fall on McCall and another great race goes into the books.

Comp Cams Engine Builder of the Race: 3V Performance

Many thanks to former UARA employees Harold & Pat Crook and Anthony Freeman for having the Pine in such great condition for the UARA race.  They all put in great effort to have the speedway in tiptop shape for the STARS.  The speedway also had a fantastic fireworks display for the fans and racers after all racing was concluded.
