Come out and see the UARA at the Food City Family night on main street Bristol

Yontz Claims the UARA Victory at Myrtle Beach Speedway

Alex Yontz making only his second visit to the UARA for 2009 showed he still has it going.
Yontz had a good qualifying run claiming the Sunoco Pole at 20.743 followed by Paddy Rodenbeck with the KLB Race Cars and Parts outside pole of 20.766. Yontz received the B Square Janitorial Clean Sweep award for starting on the pole and finishing in 1st place.

Friday the STARS rolled into the beach for an open practice session. Ace winner Brandon McReynolds was the man with the fastest times for the day. McReynolds fastest time was 21.224 on Friday. Eighteen teams were on hand for the practice session.

Saturday morning the first round of practice has Paddy Rodenbeck with the time to beat at 21.108 and Ryan Hall at a 21.418. Second round practice was lead by Alex Yontz at 21.148 followed by Garrett Campbell at 21.180.

Saturday evening the fans begin to roll in and an action packed night is in the works for them.
The Pro Challenge series take to the track first. Stephen Bergh takes the pole at a 22.010 followed by Ryan Heavner at 22.070. Bergh was the leader for the first seven laps. Heavner took the lead on lap eight and would remain there until the finish. Bergh spun on lap 24 bringing out the only caution for this race. Heavner comes home as the winner followed by Trevor Edwards, Chris Brown and Stephen Bergh, Jr.

The Pro Challenge race is followed by the local mini stock cars. Lucas Williams sets his Cooters
Mini stock on the pole at a 24.550 followed by Willie Fulford with a 24.570 to set the front row.
Williams took the lead on lap one and never looked back. Williams took the checker followed by Adam Fulford, Dub Fulford, Willie Fulford, Mark Evans and Terry Smith.

The UARA-STARS hit the track at 8:10 p.m. for a race the Myrtle Beach fans should be talking about for some time. The top ten starting positions are Yontz, Rodenbeck, Jamey Caudill, Coleman Pressley, Garrett Campbell, Brandon McReynolds, Corey LaJoie, Matt McCall, Randy Hawkins and Chad McCumbee. Alex Yontz takes the lead in the beginning and it is on from there. Yontz will set a good pace and get a small lead on the field but it is the twenty two cars behind him that are doing some serious shifting for position. By the time the field gets back to the flag on lap one Pressley and McReynolds have passed Caudill and McCall has passed LaJoie.

Pressley passes Rodenbeck for second by lap 15. McCumbee passes Smith for eighth. By lap 18 Clay Rogers passes McCall and Ryan Hall for tenth. Caution one flies as Scott Turlington who had suffered engine problems on Friday erupts in smoke. Turlington will end his night on lap 23 and receive the Aluminum Racing Products Hard Luck Award hands down.

McCumbee is on the move. He will pass Smith, McReynolds and Caudill for fifth position by lap 33. Lap 37 finds McCumbee in position four and he just keeps tearing through the field. McCumbee is in third by lap 45.

Pressley puts the pressure on Yontz and takes the lead on lap 49. McCumbee will pass Yontz on lap 54 and set his sights on Pressley. Pressley and McCumbee give the fans one heck of a show as McCumbee takes the lead on lap 56. Pressley will return back to the lead on lap 57. Then it is McCumbee on lap 61. Pressley takes back over on lap 62. These two young men put on a whale of a battle through lap 110. Side by side and nose to tail neither giving into the other but both are having a great run and pure clean racing. It was a nail biter for both teams.

Caution two flies as Joey Bryant brushes the turn four wall. During this caution the car of Robbie Mew goes behind the wall. Bryant will end his night at this time as well. Darrell Wallace, Jr. will be in and out of the pits.

As the field goes green the top ten are Pressley, McCumbee, Yontz, Smith, LaJoie, McReynolds, Rodenbeck, Caudill, Campbell and Rogers. Rogers passes Campbell on lap 83 and then Caudill on lap 91. Rogers and Caudill pass Rodenbeck on lap 97 to be followed by Campbell the next time around. Caudill passes Rogers on lap 99 followed by Campbell on lap 100. Rodenbeck appears to have problems and brings out caution three as he spins on the backstretch on lap 106.

Back to green LaJoie puts the pass on McCumbee for second. One lap later Yontz will pass McCumbee for third. It will be a short green then back to caution as Darrell Wallace, Jr. spins in turn two bringing out the final caution of the night. It is green from lap 116 to the finish and the battle is on for the lead and Pressley has his line and isn’t giving it up.

Rick Smith will pass McCumbee on lap 117 for fourth then the next lap by it will be McReynolds passing McCumbee and it keeps continuing through the field. McCumbee will head to the pits on lap 124 and his great night will end there with an oil pan leak.

Yontz will pass LaJoie for second on lap 128 and then put the pressure on Pressley. Pressley and Yontz will once again have the fans on the edge of their seats as they do a battle royal for the lead. With three laps to go Yontz will finally put the pass on Pressley and come home as the victor of one exciting race. Darrell Poe will be the Comp Cams Engine builder of the race.

Hats off to Rookie Brennan Poole for a great night bringing home the Rookie of the Race award. Fellow Rookie contender Luke Lane had a fantastic night and won the G Force Shift of the Race award for gaining 14 positions during the race.

The UARA-STARS will be in action again on August 29, 2009 at Newport Speedway.
