The UARA-STARS have been having a break for the month of May but have built up some interesting statistics thus far this year The UARA-STARS have completed four of their schedules 16 races and have had 67 different Late Model Stock drivers come to take the challenge of getting one of the coveted 28 starting positions at each event. Out of the 67 drivers only 8 have made each event. Those talented drivers have been B.J. Mackey, Jake Crum, Kevin Leicht, Lee Tissot, Lucas Ransone, Mark Setzer, Matt DiBenedetto and Matt Leicht. B.J. Mackey and Matt DiBenedetto are the only two drivers to complete all 602 laps that have been run. They both collected a RE Suspension Winner of the race award and Nut Slinger 1st place awards. The game is on to see where these two young talents will fall when the season ends. At this point in time DiBendetto holds the points lead and is also leading the Melling Select Rookie Challenge. Mackey is hot on his trail in the points challenge with former champion Lee Tissot hot on their tails in third. At this early stage of the season it is still anybody’s show
Dennis Queen and the Bad Boy
Mowers Group Matt DiBenedetto and The Fairborn Equipment Group Dennis Queen who was winner of the Bad Boy Mowers event at Hickory, NC has had his share of problems after that great win. Dennis and car owner Ted Mann being the tough competitors they are have managed to maintain a top 10 position in the points and will be chomping at the bit for a second win. Matt DiBenedetto winner of the Fairborn Equipment race at Concord won in style taking the point from the pole. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for DiBenedetto though, Roger Lee Newton gave him a run for his money but it was DiBenedetto who collected the checker after leading 120 laps of the 150 lap event. Clay Greenfield showed he has what it takes to become a winner after coming from 25th starting position to an impressive finish of 6th at Concord.
Jamie Caudill B.J. Mackey and Roy Dies of ARP
At Southern National Raceway it was the man that really knows that track that brought home the money. Non other than Jamey Caudill. Caudill had his job cut out for him before the race trying to get his car and two others ready for the event. Not only was he keeping up with three race cars he was also in the process of moving too. He had to unload his household furniture out of his hauler into a warehouse when it became apparent that his new home wouldn’t be ready in time. The Caudill gang did the shuffle and it payed of in a big way for them. B.J. Mackey was the man of the night at Tri County Speedway in Hudson, NC at the fourth UARA-STARS event of the season. The Leicht brothers Kevin and Matt took the front row in qualifying but it was an all Mackey night. Mackey lead 145 laps of the Bad Boy Mowers event and once he took the point he never looked back. Who will be winner number five or will there be a repeat winner for 2007 at this early stage? Alex Yontz is sure to make a strong challenge at Shenandoah Speedway at our next event on June 2nd. Yontz who finished second in point in 2006 was the race winner at Shenandoah in 2006. Yontz sat on the pole but it was Mark Setzer who gave him a run for the money. Setzer lead the most laps but with ten laps to go his hopes were gone having lost a wheel in the fourth turn. Another contender should be Jake Crum who came home in the fourth spot last year. The next event will be another great show by the UARA-STARS with an average of 40+ cars so far Shenandoah Valley should roar. For more info visit our website www.uara-stars.com or call 828-692-3833.
