The UARA-STARS season opener Bad Boy Mowers 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway March 17, 2007 will have a trophy that the drivers will be talking about for a long time. Bad Boy Mowers have designed a special trophy to be presented that has been reported to be something to behold. Not only is Bad Boy Mowers fixing up a fantastic trophy for the lucky winner but he will also receive a certificate from Corriher Implement Company that will enable him to purchase a Bad Boy Mower at net cost (certificate good for one year). NASCAR legend Harry Gant and Craftsman Truck Series regular Dennis Setzer will be on hand for the pre-race autograph session, which is always a fan favorite UARA activity. The UARA-STARS will be making a most impressive show with 40 late model stock drivers pre-entered for the race at so far along with the Thunder Roadsters and Legend cars coming on board as support divisions. 2003 UARA champion Lee Tissot and car owner Stan Robinson are setting their sites on Tissot being the first repeat champion. Alex Yontz runner up in the 2006 UARA points championship has his sights set on moving up that final notch for the 2007 season to claim the championship himself. He will have plenty of fellow contenders making that move. 2006 Melling Select Rookie of the Year Barry Andrews has high hopes for his future with the STARS as well. Ross Furr, Lucas Ransone, B.J. Mackey, Clay Greenfield and Jake Crum just to name a few are also serious contenders for the 2007 championship.
The UARA –STARS will host many newcomers
to the series this year and have a variety of drivers. Our friend Carl
Horton (69 years young) will find himself going for one of the coveted
28 starting positions along with several drivers 14 and 15 year
Jake “The Snake” Crum proved last season
that 14 year olds can hold their own in the UARA with a great season
finishing in the top ten in points. Jake proved more than once that he
had a machine that could get the job done. We with the UARA watched
Jake mature not only physically but also as a driver. Jake is a young
man with much potential. Jake can give the upcoming young guns some
pointers on competing with the toughest short track touring series
going. The UARA-STARS have signed on many new contingency sponsors for 2007. Brisco, Race Weekly, Tri-County Solutions & Graphics, NutSlinger, Miller Welders, RE Suspension, Racing Electronics, Hypercoil, Circle Wheel, Performance Tees and Fidelity Printing have signed up to be a part of what promises to be another great year of superb racing in the Southeast. There will be many exciting announcements to follow pertaining to new and previous sponsors alike. Grandstand Gates will open at 2:00 pm allowing fans plenty of time to get settled down for qualifying, the autograph session and some very serious racing.
