UARA STARS News Alex Yontz picks up second career UARA STARS win in Holley Performance 150 at Myrtle Beach Speedway By: Tracy Dean The UARA 150 was scheduled to run Saturday night at Myrtle Beach Speedway, but after am and pm practice sessions were complete the skies opened up. The inclement weather forced the UARA officials to postpone the race till Sunday afternoon. After qualifying times were turned in Sunday, it was clear that we had a tight field of race cars. The #19 of Joey Miller from Wilmington, NC, collected his first UARA-STARS pole award with a time of 20.650. Miller is no stranger to MBS, having competed in several other late model stock car events there. When the thirty car field took the green flag, the #19 car of Miller lead the first twelve circuits. One of the local favorite’s in the event, #70 Stuart Ricks of Socastee, SC wasted no time charging to the lead from his fifth starting position. At one time mid-way through the race, Ricks secured a five second lead. It was evident that the #55 Alex Yontz of Walnut Cove, NC was making a charge to the front from his ninth starting position. Yontz started applying pressure on the leader with 40 laps to go. The blaze orange car of Yontz made his move on lap 121, sticking his nose under Ricks and making a pass for the lead. Leading the final 29 circuits. This was Yontz’s first victory of the season. Jason York #18 of Reidsville, NC came in 2nd from his 11th starting position. Coming home 3rd was the #48 Mark Setzer of Newton, NC. The #28 car of Rick Smith from Georgetown, SC (the other local favorite) came home 4th.
