UARA STARS News UARA STARS storm into Myrtle Beach with large car count
Myrtle Beach, SC – (April 4) – After two very successful events in 2006, the Southern Late Model Touring Series of UARA will continue its vast field of the best Late Model Stock Drivers in the southeast this Saturday night at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
Averaging over forty cars in each of the first two events, “fans can look forward to another large car count this weekend; stated Series Public Relations Manager Harold Crook. We have been very fortunate to have the car counts that we’ve had so far this season and in the past, I can’t believe the competition and the talent that we’ve seen in this series.”
Danny O’Quinn and Matt McCall are both past champions of the series and have now moved onto the Busch Series. This season doesn’t look much different than the past, any one of the drivers that have competed this season have a chance to move on to the next level.
STARS drivers will have their work cut out for them this weekend at the Beach. Ricky Smith has many wins at the Speedway and 2006 Melling Rookie of the contender Barry Andrews is setting sixth in UARA standings and has a lot of experience in the trucks at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
Tony Grady, a regular in UARA has competed the last few years in the November race that Myrtle Beach hosts’ each year, so far he has not finished outside the top ten there and is coming off one of his best finishes in UARA, with a forth place finish at Southern National Raceway Park this past weekend.
2004 UARA STARS Champion Jason York will also be in this weekends event, York has been running a limited schedule and will also be a threat to win.
Kyle Grissom remains on top in the UARA STARS Standings followed by Brandon Ward, Ross Furr, Jamie Yelton and KC Cunningham rounding out the top five. Furr is coming off one of the best performances a driver has displayed in the series. Furr qualified a disappointing thirty first and was forced to run the heat race to transfer into the feature. When it was all said and done Furr had climbed his way to a third place finish, earning him the UARA Hard Charger of the race and the Holley Performance Performer of the race.
Thirty plus cars have already pre entered the event, qualifying will get under way at 5:00 pm and racing at 8:00 pm.
