Jamey Caudill dominates PJ Trucking / KIRCO

Motorsports 150 at Southern National Raceway Park

Kenly, NC (April 2) – UARA STARS winningest driver Jamey Caudill added one more victory Saturday night at his favorite “home town track” by dominating the PJ Trucking / KIRCO Motorsports 150 at Southern National Raceway Park for a total of eight victories. Caudill also added another SUNOCO Pole to his credits to bring his all time total to ten.

With another large field of the best Late Model Stock Drivers in the Southeast race fans were once again treated with some exciting racing action. After a few morning showers the sun began to shine on the forty entries as they took the track for practice. Justin Johnson making his first UARA STARS start led the way in practice over Caudill, Busch Series Driver Danny O’Quinn, Yelton, Kirk Leone, Brandon Head, Alex Yontz, RA Brown, KC Cunningham and Justin Hill rounding out the top ten.

Caudill and Yelton were able to back up their practice runs by qualifying first and second. Hill was unable to qualify due to electrical failure and Johnson’s night fell short with a flat tire in the heat race.

Locking in the top twenty two qualifiers after qualifying, the remaining starting spots came from a twenty lap heat race with Mark King and Ryan Gray taking the two provisional’s. Sixteen cars took the green flag for the heat with Randy Pearce taking the lead. The battle behind Pearce was exciting with JR Franks, Johnson, Brown, Barry Andrews, and Ross Furr battling for the final four spots available. Contact between Franks and Johnson sent Franks around and out of contention for a transfer spot. The contact was also the cause of the flat that took Johnson out also.

Pearce went on to win the heat race to transfer into the feature followed by a strong running Furr, Brown and Andrews. Thomas Burbage finished fifth followed by Bruce Stachitas, JR, Blair Addis, JR Franks, Kyle Beattie, Nate Pieper, Shotgun Miller, Josh Hale, Johnson, Hill, Scooter Hillis and Matt Lassiter.

At the drop of the green flag the stage was set for a Jamey and Jamie show when Yelton bolted out into the lead on the first lap. Yelton would hold Caudill off until lap thirteen; Caudill slipped to the bottom and made the pass.

The excitement continued to build throughout the rest of the field with drivers battling back and forth. O’Quinn having a week off from Busch, looked strong early making his way up to battle Yelton for second but could never make the pass. O’Quinn would later fade and end the night with a disappointing eleventh place finish.

Ross Furr was a man on a mission. After qualifying thirty first out of forty cars, Furr had to race his way into the feature. Furr started eighth and finished a strong second placing him twenty forth in the feature event. Furr steadily made his way to the front and at the end of the race was setting third. His performance earned him the Hard Charger of the race, plus the Holley Performance Performer of the race.

Kyle Grissom held onto his points lead with a fifth place finish after starting ninth. Brandon Ward and Kirk Leone also turned strong performance starting toward the rear and finishing sixth and seventh.

UARA STARS returns to action this Saturday night at Myrtle Beach Speedway with qualifying at 5:00 and racing at 8:00. For more information please contact UARA STARS at 828-692-3833.
