UARA STARS News
UARA Schedule not to include Bristol Motor Speedway in 2006 Bristol TN (February 28) – After two successful events at Bristol Motor Speedway UARA Officials along with BMS Officials announced today that there would not be a Late Model event this season. Construction and dates were the main problem with nailing a date for the prestigious event.
This race allowed Saturday night racers to live the dream of racing on the world’s most famous high banked speedway. Next season looks very promising to continue this exciting race.
"Earlier this year, Speedway Motorsports planned a major track resurfacing project for Bristol in 2006. Then, the same engineers who would have been working on Bristol were called upon to execute major projects at Las Vegas and Charlotte. Here at Bristol, we want the full attention of the engineers before anyone touches the most popular racing surface in Motorsports, so we asked the SMI engineers to delay the Bristol project. Unfortunately, the late decision to delay the Bristol project cramped the time needed to establish a 2006 UARA-Stars date at Bristol. We could not resolve schedule conflicts in time for either UARA nor BMS to put a specific date on the 2006 schedule. However, we intend to announce UARA racing for the 2007 calendar, and we are confident given a less congested planning period, we will do so," states Wayne Estes, Communications and Events Vice President Bristol Motor Speedway.
Even tough Bristol Motor Speedway is not on schedule for 2006; UARA is excited about the facilities that have been added. “Each season we have been able to add some popular race tracks. New to the schedule this year we have Motor Mile, Lanier National, Shenandoah Speedway Southampton Speedway, Orange Co and Greenville Pickens. Returning to the UARA schedule includes Hickory Motor Speedway, Tri-County Speedway, Coastal Plains, and Southern National Speedway. We have had a great relationship with Wayne and BMS, even though we couldn’t find a suitable date this year we are looking forward to some exciting events at BMS in 2007. We have already gotten six races for 2006 which will take from March till October to complete and some very nice speedways to race at,” commented Brian Vance Competition Director for UARA STARS.
