                                       UARA Stars  NEWS

August 28, 2006 Hendersonville, NC

UARA-STARS heading to Orange County Speedway September 2, 2006.

The Stars will be making a return engagement to Orange County Speedway this Saturday.

On the last visit there 27 late model drivers competed.  Brandon Ward, Jamie Yelton and Ryan Gray were leaders throughout the night but it was Ward who found himself leading that all important last lap with Gray finishing second and current points leader Alex Yontz third.

Michael Giessen of Deer Park, NY.  Michael’s highest finish this year has been 6th at Myrtle Beach, but mark my word, he is hungry for a win and has that taste in his mouth after leading our last race at Newport on August 5th.  Michael traveled extensively last year to race with the Stars and has moved to Raleigh, NC to compete this year.  He is 19 years old and also drives a Townsend Chevy Monte Carlo with an ARP body.  Collie builds his engine and his crew chief is Butch Springfield who is no rookie to the Stars series.  Michael worked his way up through the karting series winning the IKF Grandnational, 6 GN wins, 40 poles and 6 points championships.  He is sponsored by A Step Ahead Prosthetics and Deer Park Sand & Gravel.

Shotgun Miller returned to racing this past weekend at Orange County Speedway after missing several races since our Shenandoah race June 3rd  due to the lack of an engine. Shotgun started 19th, worked his way up to 8th was black flagged on lap 89 for a racing incident and still came back to finish 11th. We look forward to having Shotgun and the Miller family back on board with us this again this week.

Stars regular Scooter Hillis made an appearance at the speedway last Saturday night coming home with a tenth place finish and some valuable Orange County experience under his belt.

Scooter a 22-year-old from Lebanon, TN drives a Townsend Chevy Monte Carlo powered by a Howard Johnson engine.  He is sponsored by Specialized Refinishing, Kalm Building Corp., Door Tech, Baird Custom Fencing, A Stroke of Brilliance and Nashville Machine.  Scooter has Chevy White as his crew chief who knows his way around a late model car.  Scooter ran a limited schedule with the Stars last season and comes up through the ranks of the Bandeleros, and Legends.  He was winner of the 2001 Riverside Speedway Championship and was the 2004 Tennessee State Champion in the Bandelero division.  Scooter finds himself in the 9th place in the points championship at this time and has a third place finish at Shenandoah Speedway earlier this season.

Racing with the Stars this week will be the Limited Sportsman  50 laps, Grand Stock 35 Laps and Pure Stock 30 laps divisions.

Grandstand gates will open at 4 pm. Qualifying at 5pm and racing begins at 7 pm.

Admission is $15 for Adults, $10 for students and $3 for children under 9 years old.
