Grissom claims first Late Model Stock win in Elliott Sawmilling 150

Anderson, SC (August 7) – Kyle Grissom, son of Busch Series driver Steve Grissom claimed his first ever Late Model Stock win Friday night in the UARA STARS, Elliott Sawmilling 150 held at Anderson Motor Speedway. Grissoms win came in his 10th start in a Late Model Stock Car. The young Alabama native has wins and Championships in Go Karts and Thunder Roadsters and has now taken another step in his young career to further his racing future.

UARA STARS point’s leader Jamie Caudill started the night off with a great start by claiming his third SUNOCO Pole Award of 2005 and his eighth UARA STARS career pole. Having a twenty point lead over Matt McCall, Caudill had put himself into a great position to gain more points when McCall pulled out of line to work on his car, causing him to start in the rear of the field.

At the drop of the green flag Caudill jumped out to a comfortable lead over Ashley Huffman, Nick Hutchins, and Kyle Grissom. Grissom began to make a charge to the front passing Hutchins on lap eleven and quickly getting around Huffman for second place on lap fourteen. McCall was also making his way to the front by making his way to the top ten be lap twenty five.

Caudill looked to have things but after a few cautions between laps fifty and sixty five, Caudill’s car picked up a push and allowed Grissom to take the lead on lap seventy seven. After taking the lead Grissom set sail and built a strong lead over the rest of the field.

Racing from third though seventh was very tight and exciting between Robert Elliott, RA Brown, Danny O’Quinn, Nick Hutchins and Matt McCall who had moved up to third place by lap one hundred. Things would get worse for Caudill, when a late race caution would bunch the field up for a shot out but after contact from a lap car sent Caudill spinning down the back straight and into the wall. Caudill was able to battle his way from the rear for a eighth place finish and maintain a two point lead over McCall.

McCall was able to pull up to the back bumper of Grissom, but Grissom was to strong as the RH2 Way Racing Radio Rookie contender went on to collect his first victory.

Elliott would end the night in third after a battle between RA Brown, Danny O’Quinn and Nick Hutchins. This group would change positions about every lap. Elliott was followed to the line by Brown, O’Quinn and Hutchins.

Caudill ended the night with the Sonic Racing Products most laps lead. McCall ended the night with the East TN Trailers Hard Charger for gaining the most positions for the event. Scottie Hicks received the ARP Hard Luck of the race award for his misfortunes.
