UARA STARS Drivers make final six in Roush Gong Show

Hendersonville, NC (August 18) – Jack Roush Owner and CEO of Roush Racing has once again gone to grass roots racing to find a talented driver to drive a Craftsmen Truck. Roush’s development program now called the “Gong Show” has seen some talented drivers such as Greg Biffle and 2004 Cup Champion Kurt Bush.

Two highly gifted and competitive drivers from the UARA STARS Late Model Touring Series have now made it to the final six. 2002 UARA STARS Champion Danny O’Quinn and 2004 Hickory Motor Speedway Champion and two time race winner Matt McCall have climbed their way from a list of more than 1600 applicants to make it and have an opportunity to be the next driver in Roush’s elite stable of drivers.

O’Quinn has won five UARA career races and six SUNOCO Pole awards in 22 events. O’Quinn has made the move to Hooters Pro Cup and has enjoyed a win at his home track Lonesome Pine Speedway and a pole. O’Quinn has also ran three events with Roush Racing in ARCA and has placed in the top ten three times and one top five. O’Quinn also was a finalist last season in the Gong show with the ride going to Todd Kluever.

McCall is coming off a dream season in 2004, winning fifteen times and setting on the pole 11 times earning him the 2004 Hickory Motor Speedway Championship. Matt also holds the all time track record and was voted the most popular driver in 2004. McCall has gotten off to a great start in 2005 by winning two out the nine races and has one SUNOCO Pole award. McCall has led the Championship standings for seven of the nine events and is currently second only two points out of first place. McCall is also leading the most laps led for 2005.

Earlier this season McCall and O’Quinn had a chance to go head to head in their Late Models at Lonesome Pine with O’Quinn coming away with the win after McCall fell out of the led with mechanical problems. UARA makes a return trip to the Pine this weekend and both drivers will have a chance to compete against each other again.

As if they have not been racing against each other enough in the UARA both drivers have been competing against each other over the last three weeks for what could be an opportunity of a life, to be the next driver for Jack Roush in the Craftsmen Truck Series.

“We are very proud to have two drivers represent UARA STARS. They both have a ton of experience and both have a lot of driving skills. I know the other four drivers are good but hopefully both Danny and Matt can come away with a ride.” Commented Competition Director Brian Vance
