Caudill dominates UARA STARS, Don Smith Ford 150 at Newport Speedway for second win of 2005 Newport, TN (July 17) – Four Oaks, North Carolina driver Jamey Caudill took a big step Saturday night in the 2005 points Championship chase by dominating the UARA STARS, Don Smith Ford 150. Caudill claimed his second UARA STARS, SUNOCO pole award of the 2005 season and went on to lead every lap and take over the points lead from Matt McCall by three points. This is the first time this season that McCall has not lead the UARA STARS points. McCall still had a great night with a third place finish. Thirty-Two cars showed up to make the twenty-six car field. The night began with a last chance race for drivers that did not make the top twenty qualifying spots. Centerville, TN driver Willie Allen would take the lead from fellow Nashville Speedway competitor Daniel Pope and go on to win the twenty lap event to transfer into the feature event. Other drivers transferring were Royce Peters and Newport Speedway regular Ed Surrett. Action got started early in the feature event when a multiple car wreck on the back straight took out Burt Cable winner of the last UARA race at Newport, Ashley Huffman, Michael Giessen, and left Allen, Jason York with sheet medal damage. After returning to green Caudill was challenged by Kirk Leone who was making his first UARA start of the 2005 season, but as the race got into the late stages Caudill would pull away and secure the victory. Jamie Yelton and Mark King would also run into bad luck when the two cars come together on the front straight, sending both cars to the inside wall and Yelton’s ride on top of King’s hood. Both drivers were ok, but Yelton’s night was over while King was able to salvage a sixteenth place finish. RH2 Way Rookie contender Kyle Grissom would extend his points lead over Steve Pendergrass with an impressive drive from the rear of the field to a strong eighth place finish. Grissom missed the top twenty by 11 thousandths of a second and would choose to take a provisional instead of running the last chance race. Grissom started twenty-sixth and was caught up in a couple of the wrecks through out the night but would battle his way to a top ten finish and would earn the RH2 Way Rookie of the Race. RA Brown also took a provisional and would start in the twenty-fifth starting spot. Brown made his way another top ten finish and would earn the Holley Performance Performer of the race. UARA STARS will return to action Saturday July 30th at Friendship Motor Speedway. For more information please contact UARA at 828-692-3833. www.uara-stars.com and www.tracksidetalk.net |
