Don Smith Ford 150 to be halfway mark for UARA STARS Late Model Touring Series
Hendersonville, NC (July 10) – Saturday July 16th will be the halfway mark for UARA STARS Late Model Touring Series in the Don Smith Ford 150 at Newport Speedway. Newport Speedway will also be the first repeat track of the 2005 season for STARS drivers.
The 2005 season has seen five winners in seven events. Maryville TN, driver Burt Cable dominated the May 6th event held earlier this season at Newport Speedway. Cable has been the dominate car at Newport this season on a weekly basis, he holds a twenty point lead over Andy Johnson for the track championship. Cable also has the Late Model track record and came very close to breaking at the May 6th UARA event. Cable went on to lead every lap and win his first ever UARA STARS event.
STARS points leader Matt McCall has had a stellar season with two wins, five top fives and six top tens in seven events. McCall’s misfortune in UARA’s last event causing a nineteenth place finish and has enabled Jamey Caudill to close in.
Jamie Yelton holding a third place position in the Championship chase has also turned his season around with a pole position and a strong second place finish at Lonesome Pine Raceway. Yelton’s finish has helped him close in on the championship chase.
2004 UARA STARS Champion Jason York got off to a great start of the 2005 season with a victory in the second event at Florence Motor Speedway, but has struggled since. York still holds onto forth place and Newport Speedway his one of his better tracks.
Rounding out the top five RA Brown is having one of the best seasons in UARA since its beginning. Brown has six top tens in seven events.
Danny O’Quinn winner of STARS last event comes to Newport with more wins than any other STARS drivers. O’Quinn’s car owner Mitch West has the most victories at Newport as an owner. This combination should be a favorite for the Don Smith Ford 150.
