Burt Cable dominates Don Smith Ford 150 for first UARA STARS win at Newport Motor Speedway

Newport, TN (June 4) – Burt Cable showed a near capacity crowd why he was the pre race favorite by dominating not only the Don Smith Ford 150 but as soon as he unloaded off the truck he had the fastest car in both UARA practice sessions and also had his first UARA STARS Sunoco Pole Award, Cable also lead every lap.

Cable knows his way around Newport Speedway, Cable set a new track record a couple of weeks ago and came very close to breaking it for this UARA event. Cable was also the first Ford to win in 2005. The first four races have been won by Chevrolets.

Cable driving the Shore Trucking Ford was very emotional on the radio at the end of the race, thinking his whole crew and family for his first STARS win. “We finally did it. This is the best car I’ve drove, we’ve worked very hard for this win. We’ve been running here for a while trying to get dialed in and it paid off. I was worried there at the end of the race, I thought the right rear was going flat but we held on and this is great”, stated Cable.

Point leader Matt McCall was able to overcome a power steering problem on lap one and battle his way to a seventh place finish and continues to hold a tight lead over third place finisher Jamey Caudill. Arden, NC driver Lee Tissot over come a bad qualifying run and stormed his way to a strong second place finish with a last lap pass on Caudill.

Newport was not a good night for rookies; the top five RH2way rookies were involved in accidents and finished toward the rear of the field. Scooter Hillis making his second UARA STARS start was the highest finishing rookie with a sixteenth place finish.

The East TN Trailers hard charger of the race went to RA Brown. Brown qualified a disappointing twenty-seventh but bounced back with another top ten finish in 2005 with a strong ninth place run. Holley Performance Performer of the race went to Robert Elliott. Elliott came home in sixth place and ran very strong all night.
