“Reedsville Rocket” Jason York takes UARA STARS victory in Blacks Tire and Auto Service 150 at Florence Motor Speedway

Timmonsville, NC (April 17) – 2004 UARA STARS National Late Model Stock Champion Jason York put himself in position to become the first repeat Champion by winning the Blacks Tire and Auto Service 150 at Florence Motor Speedway.

With a fifth place finish at Hickory Motor Speedway in the season’s first event, York pulled to within 20 points of newcomer Matt McCall, who claimed his first UARA STARS victory at Hickory a couple weeks ago.

Action got started early on the fast 4/10 mile oval, when Jamey Caudill who had set a new track record to claim the SUNOCO Pole slipped in turn one and was bumped from behind by Jamie Yelton. The bump from Yelton turned Caudill sideways and started a domino affect throughout the field and bringing out the first caution of the night on the first lap.

Caudill fell back to fifth while McCall would take the lead from his outside front row starting position. When the field returned to green McCall jumped back out front with Yelton second, Brandon Ward in third, Caudill forth and York in fifth.

Caudill battled his way back to third but would fall out early with mechanical problems. After a mid race caution, York started his charge to the front. York would make the pass of the night when the two leaders approached the lapped car of Tony Grady. York was able to take the lead away from McCall by going three wide off turn four. “I was just sitting there being patient and waiting for the right time; I saw a hole and jumped into. Eddy and Dad do such a great job on the car it was awesome tonight. I want to thank my family and crew for all they do, I couldn’t do this without them”, stated an elated York in victory lane.

York would pull away leaving the battle for second place between Yelton and McCall. Yelton passed McCall and would go on to finish second. McCall held onto third with The Holley Performance Performer of the race going to Nick Hutchins who came from his eighteenth starting spot to finish a strong forth place. Florence SC driver Dange Hanniford driving the Blacks Tire and Auto Center Chevy Monte Carlo also turned in an awesome run, coming from his fifteenth starting spot to finish a strong fifth place.

RH2 way Racing Radios Rookie of the race went to Kyle Grissom. It wasn’t easy for Grissom he had to battle with fellow Rookie contender Steve Pendergrass who battled his way from sixteenth to forth but faded late to end the night with a ninth place finish behind Grissom in eighth. The ARP Hard Luck award went to Tony Grady, Grady who had one of the fastest cars all weekend and qualified sixth broke an axle on the warm up lap of the feature event. “It would bother us so bad but we have had a fast car for the first two races this season and have little things take us out of competition, its all new parts and we shouldn’t be having these problems. Butch and the crew work real hard and they deserve a good run. We have been able to fix the car and come back out to gain spots for the points, we don’t feel like we are out of this yet, we just need a little luck,” commented Grady.
