Caudill becomes UARA STARS winningest driver with Red Rose Hosiery 150 victory
Florence, SC (October 30) – Four Oaks North Carolina’s driver Jamey Caudill became UARA STARS all time winningest driver Saturday night in the Red Rose Hosiery 150 at Florence Motor Speedway. Caudill now has seven victories with four of those coming this season. 2003 UARA STARS Champion Lee Tissot has six total victories followed by Keith Bumgarner and Danny O’Quinn with five each and Matt McCall with four. There have been thirty five drivers to visit victory lane out of sixty-three events in four years.
Caudill also has the most SUNOCO pole award and added one more by claiming the pole with a 16.883 beating Nick Hutchins, Mark King, Joey miller and RA Brown taking his total to nine poles. Caudill needed to set on the pole and win the race if he was going to have a chance at winning the 2005 Championship. Caudill trailed McCall by sixty-five point coming into the event and needed to gain as many points as possible before going to McCall’s home track Saturday November 5th for the final UARA race of the season.
Caudill did everything he needed to by gaining the most points available with the pole, leading a lap and leading the most laps. Caudill took the lead coming off turn two and never looked back. The battle was fierce from second all the way through to fifteenth. Positions changed all night with Danny O’Quinn making the most moves. O’Quinn driving the Mitch West Racing Chevy Monte Carlo got caught up in a wreck on lap five, had to pit for repairs and just before going back to green was collected in another wreck under caution when Lester Lesneski was attempting to get his lap back for being the “Lucky Dog” and got together with Mike Giessen. O’Quinn made repairs and started his charge to the front on the outside and making his way to third. O’Quinn’s performance earned him the Holley Performance Performer of the Race.
Ashley Huffman turned in one of his best performances of the season battling his way from thirteenth to fifth earning him the East TN Trailers hard charger of the race gaining eight spots. Kyle Grissom was the RH2way Rookie of the race with a twelfth place finish.
McCall remains the point’s leader with a forty-six point lead. McCall had another strong night qualifying sixth and storming his way to a second place finish. McCall will have home field advantage this Saturday at Hickory but it will be an exciting night of racing to conclude the 2005 season.
Following Caudill, McCall and O’Quinn across the line was Hutchins in forth, Huffman, Mark King, Joey Miller, Jamie Lee, Tony Grady and Dange Hanniford rounding out the top ten.
