McCall inherits UARA STARS Holley Performance 150
(October 23) – 2005 UARA STARS points chase contender Matt McCall battled one-hundred thirty laps with pole setter Andy Loden but was unable to make the pass for his forth win of the season until UARA Officials found an un-approved cylinder head on Loden in post race inspections. Loden was disqualified giving McCall his forth UARA STARS win of the season and extended his points lead over Jamey Caudill with two races remaining.
Thirty-six cars showed up for the 150 lap event at Tri-County Motor Speedway for the fourteenth event of the 2005 season. Loden making his first start with UARA was the last car to qualify and bumped RH2 way Rookie contender Kyle Grissom from the pole. With the front row set McCall would line up third followed by Jamie Yelton and Jamey Caudill completing the top five.
With the starting field being limited to twenty-eight starting spots fourteen drivers would have to run a last chance race with the top four advancing to the feature. Mt. Juliet, TN driver Andy Johnson wasted no time jumping out front and went on to win allowing him to transfer to the feature. Mark King, KC Cunningham and Tim Weaver were the other racers to transfer to the feature. RA Brown and Tony Grady took provisional to complete the twenty-eight car field.
Loden jumped ahead of Grissom at the drop of the green and put some distance between him and the rest of the field. McCall advance early making his way around Grissom and setting his sights on Loden. Taking over second place on lap twenty McCall would spend the next one-hundred thirty laps battling Loden but would fall a few car lengths short of the win. Caudill holding onto second in the points chase started to fall back late in the event and collected the back straight away wall with ten laps remaining. Caudill was able to make repairs and fight his way back to a fifteenth place finish.
Tony Grady turned in one of the best performances of the season. Grady blew his primary engine with five minutes remaining in practice. The T and G team went to work replacing the engine but failed to qualify into the top twenty-five. The team then chose to take a provisional starting spot in twenty-eighth. Grady missing some accidents was able to bring home a fifth place finish and gaining some ground in the points chase. Grady’s charge to the front earned him the East TN Trailers Hard Charger of the race.
RA Brown and Mark King also battled their way from bad starting spots to claim top ten finishing positions, Brown in seventh and King in eighth. Ross Furr was the RH2 way Rookie of the race with a twelfth place finish.
STARS will return to action this Saturday night October 29th for the Red Rose Hosiery ‘Spook 150”. For More information please contact UARA STARS at 828-692-3833 www.uara-stars.com
