Woody Howard celebrates first UARA-STARS win in AAMCO Transmissions 150 at Anderson Speedway

Anderson, SC (April 9) – After the smoke had cleared on the front straight away from an exciting burn out, Yorktown VA. driver Woody Howard emerged from his winning car to celebrate his first ever UARA-STARS victory in the UARA AAMCO Transmissions of Anderson 150. Woody a regular at South Boston Motor Speedway decided Thursday to make the trip down to Anderson Motor Speedway and see what UARA-STARS was all about. What he found was victory lane.

Jamey Caudill making a statement early by setting the Sunoco fast time over thirty- five cars with a 16.061 and his second pole award in two races. Caudill also lead the most laps in the season’s first event but fell out with mechanical problems. At the drop of the green flag Caudill jumped into a comfortable lead and looked to be on his way to his third UARA-STARS win. As the race would near halfway, newcomer Howard had made his way up from his fifth place starting position and was applying pressure to Caudill. Howard had made a couple of attempts to pass Caudill but cautions and lapped traffic slowed the two down and brought the fans to their feet. As the pair crossed the start finish line on lap seventy-four, Howard got a good run under Caudill to take the lead on the back straight and would never look back over the final seventy-six laps. Howard was awarded bonus points for leading the Sonic Performance most laps.

Terry Allison, Jr turned in another strong performance with a third place finish and by doing so has him leading the UARA-STARS points standings by twenty-one points over second place Jason York. With another full field of cars UARA officials ran a twenty-lap heat race to fill in the final four position of the staring field. Mt. Juliet TN driver Andy Johnson came away with the win and had made his way up to tenth when he was caught up in a wreck that ended his night with five laps remaining.

Hobart Sales and Service Rookie contender Steve Wallace turned in his best UARA finish with a sixth place finish. Wallace qualified twelfth but was sent to the rear for a pre-race infraction for working on his car. Wallace made his way from twenty eighth to sixth and by doing so earned the Hobart Sales and Service Rookie of the race and the Holley Performance Performer of the race.

Finishing third in the heat race to transfer to the feature Hendersonville, NC’s Jimmy Doyle made his way up to tenth to earn the East TN. Trailers Hard Charger. R.A. Brown received the ARP Bodies hard luck of the race after being collected in a fifty-lap crash.
